In a video released to the press, Vance is seen delivering a message from the terrorists warning of a change coming as Gibbs sees a bombing going on just outside his neighborhood. The team discussed Vance's video message, which Kasie Diona Reasonover deciphers as a hidden message for the team. As that happens, Leon is seen with Masahun and his mother, who think that their attacks will motivate the US to take the troops out of Afghanistan.
They try to blackmail Vance into giving them the NCIS codes to a nuclear plant, but when he refuses they order his daughter's murder. Back in the States, there is an attempt on Vance's daughter's life but she is rescued by the team before the man can get to her.
Later, Vance is approached by a man, who claims to be an undercover CIA agent who promises to help him escape if he can. Later, Vance manages to free himself from his restraints and attempts to run, with the help of the man. Dearing swapped out his brother and blew up his corpse.
Abby agrees. In the squad room, she says she has determined that the car was rigged to give off a thermal signature. The bomb was thermite, and the cell phone signature only looked like it was coming from inside the car.
She also bought gas in a nearby town in West Virginia. SecNav even attends, joining Vance to observe from behind the glass. Gibbs asks Joanne about the last time she saw Dearing. And he tells her what they know. After Dearing was reported dead, she came home and found him in her living room with the flag. She says she needed the money. Gibbs demands to know where Dearing is. The home is clear. The house is filled with bomb-making materials and surveillance photos of the NCIS team.
But where is he? Tony finds a trap door leading into an old moonshine Prohibition tunnel. Fornell figures it probably goes to the state line. Gibbs is in his basement with a tape measure. Gibbs figures Vance has kids. Gibbs reports that forensics linked everything in the cabin to Dearing.
Vance says they worked the tunnel with dogs and missed Dearing by twenty minutes. Gibbs pours drinks and he and Vance sit. Gibbs suggests he go to Dearing alone. Dearing knows what he did and what happens next. Gibbs figures he and Dearing have both made decisions and mistakes. And he knows Dearing is waiting for him at the house where he and Victoria raised Evan. Where the memories are. The important memories that Dearing holds on to. But he approves it anyway.
In the squad room, Tony and Ziva watch Gibbs nervously as Gibbs packs a bag. Ziva calls Gibbs a stubborn fool, but then walks it back to just stubborn. She also describes Gibbs as infuriating.
Gibbs asks for a four-letter word for surviving a terrorist attack. Gibbs leaves. He drives out to a place in the country. We hear a wind chime. Inside, we hear a recording of Evan describing his first deployment onboard a ship.
Gibbs enters the home. But the machine is incomprehensible, so he offers liquor instead. Where he still lives. Gibbs resists both the drink and, albeit silently, the effort by Dearing to make them comparators. Dearing then quotes Mary Shelley, which is a good way to put Gibbs to sleep standing up.
Although, by network TV standards, a Frankenstein reference under these circumstances is both literary and even understated. Dearing makes things more explicit. Dearing says Gibbs has a job to do. Dearing has done his job. He monologues over his regrets as Gibbs pulls a knife out of his pocket. Dearing gets existential at the end and wonders if everything happens for a reason.
Then he goes for the gun. We get an exterior shot of Gibbs holding Dearing up in the window as the wind chime tinkles. Back inside, Gibbs holds eye contact until Dearing dies and slips to the floor. The date card says September 25, , the air date of the episode. Gibbs visits a memorial to the fallen.
Gibbs watches in the distance as his team gets coffee at the outdoor stand. Vance, on his phone and carrying a briefcase, passes the threesome in the background. Vance waves over to Tony and Ziva. The episode ends on a close-up of Gibbs, as we hear Evan talking about loving his country.
And he and Dearing being proud that Evan is going to help protect it. And I look forward to telling them. Evan: I love this country. I want to protect it. I want to protect what it stands for. Ducky Tales: Ducky talks about the taboos involved in family members claiming, or not claiming, the remains of wanted men. His example is John Wilkes Booth.

Login Register. Tonight's episode of NCIS started off with a literal bang, as a young couple who was following a delivery truck around and stealing packages off of people's porches got their hands on the worst box ever and ended up opening a bomb that was meant for newly minted Navy man, Todd Nicholas.
It turned out that not only was Todd's wife, Sheba, part of a reality show that focused on the wives of military personnel, but that Todd thought she might have sent the bomb herself to try to kill him. While the team looks into why Sheba would have wanted Todd spread all over their property, we see that Leon is supposed to be due back at the NCIS offices that day.
But, much to his daughter Kayla's dismay, he seems to have no intention of going in, seeing as it's already , he hasn't showered and is still in his robe and looking to settle in with the morning paper and some coffee.
So, even though Leon made it home relatively unscathed, he's clearly having some issues with getting back to work. Of course, that makes a lot of sense. Leon was tricked and kidnapped by a terrorist named Nigel Hakim the man who held captive and tortured Jack and her team in Afghanistan years ago, killing everyone but her in the Season 15 finale. Hakim had blamed Leon for breaking up that operation all those years ago, and when Jack found him, totally by accident, all this time later, he took the opportunity to get back at Leon by kidnapping him.
Obviously, ending up in this position has been a blow to Leon's mental state, especially since he came back with an injury that requires physical therapy. While at his physical therapy appointment this time around, Leon helps out another patient who's on crutches and can't quite get through the door to the office.
